Sir, Your most endient
humble servant,
William Robin 857
honourable,
Sir,
Ward 3 750 90
With reference to 0.5.0.751/1898 I have the honour to
inform you that I find it impossible to obtain a suitable house to
reside in at a rent of $70 a month which is the amount of my present
house allowance.
I would point out that another Head of a Department,
namely the Colonial Surgeon, has for some time been granted a house
allowance at the rate of $90 a month. Bouse rent in this Colony is
exceedingly high and I find that a suitable house cannot be obtained
for a less rent than $100 a month exclusive of taxes which amount to
another $15 a month, so that with a house allowance of only $70 &
month I am the loser by $45 a month or over $500 a year.
I therefore trust that my house allowance might be
increased to $100 a month or at any rate to an amount equivalent to
that which has been allowed to the Colonial Surgeon and further that
I may be exempted from paying house taxes.
The Colonial Secretary.
